HOW TO CLEAN AN INK-JET BROTHER PRINTER

Updated: Mar 18, 2019

Giving an ink-jet Brother Printer a basic cleaning is necessary to prolong its life. Generally, Inkjet Brother Printer can become dirty due to ink "leaking" out of the ink cartridges. Ink can spill on major parts of the brother printer, which may cause the print quality to decrease. Moreover, why to wait for your printer to start spitting out distorted print or smeared pages. You can also take help from Brother Printer Customer Support team members for further solving your queries.

Cleaning your Brother printer should be part of your maintenance routine.

[Tip: Before following any of the steps, try the printer self-cleaning feature first. Brother Printers have a self-cleaning ability that is usually accessed by pressing and holding one or more of the buttons on the keys of the printer.]

You don’t need much to clean your Brother printer, just a bit of alcohol (isopropyl), a cotton or sponge swab, a stiff bristle brush, a vacuum cleaner, clean dry cloth for the first method.

Method 1

· First, you must take out the ink-head or cartridge. Be very careful while taking the cartridges out.

· Gently clean the print head contacts with a little alcohol (isopropyl) dripped on a sponge swab. You can also put a little alcohol on a stiff bristle brush and brush the contacts. After brushing, run a bit of the alcohol over the print head to rinse the broken bristles, if any. Don’t worry. It will evaporate in no time.

· Gently wipe the excess ink off the nozzles with the clean dry cloth.

· Put the ink-head or cartridge back in.

· Do a print test to ensure you’ve gotten rid of excess ink.

For the second method, you will need a piece of paper towel, a window cleaner (e.g., Windex), alcohol (isopropyl), few cotton swabs and a sewing machine oil or printer oil

Method 2

A few models of Brother Printer include the print heads on the ink cartridges themselves. So to clean these,

· Gently take the ink cartridges out. Take a piece of paper towel, fold it into quarters and apply some alcohol (isopropyl) to it and rub the paper towel gently along the print heads on the back or underside of the ink cartridges. Running the paper towel along the print heads several times should be enough to remove most of the ink build-up.

· Next, take a window cleaner and spray it on a piece of paper towel and clean the ribbon that sits behind the ink cartridge tray. The ribbon is white in color.

[Caution: Be absolutely careful while cleaning the ribbon. Use gentle pressure on the ribbon or you would risk disconnecting the ribbon from the printer on either side. It is very difficult to reconnect the ribbon, so be gentle when cleaning and avoid being disconnected.]

· Then, take the cotton swab and clean the ink build-up in the bottom of the ink cartridge tray (the ink reservoir). You can also use a bit of alcohol in the cotton swab and clean up the ink.

· Next, use the sewing machine oil or printer’s oil and place a few small spots of oil on the stabilizer bar, the bar through which the ink cartridge tray slides along. It will also reduce squeaking and grinding printer noises provided this process is performed.

· You can also check the paper pickup rollers in the back of the printer, which is accessible through the back panel. It allows you to access these rollers. You can clean the rollers with a cotton swab with alcohol. Use the vacuum cleaner to blow out any pieces of paper shreds inside the printer.
